『女神転生』シリーズにおいて、ケルプ（ケルビム）は天使の中でも特に高位に位置する存在として登場します。
半獣半人な姿で描かれていましたが、デビルサマナー以降、機械的で無機質なデザインへと大きく変化し、その神秘性を際立たせています。
知と守護を司る天使として、しばしば重要な役割を担い、神に最も近い領域に立つ存在として、静かな威厳を放ちます。

【ケルビムの起源：アッシリアの守護精霊】

この切手には、古代アッシリアの宮殿壁画に見られる「四枚の翼を持つ精霊」が描かれています。実はこの守護精霊こそ、聖書における「ケルビム（智天使）」の視覚的なルーツであるという説が有力です。語源もアッシリア語で守護者を意味する「カルブ」に由来すると言われ、峻厳で力強い守護者のイメージを持っていました。
エデンの園の東を守る「生命の樹」の守護者としての役割も、メソポタミアの精霊が聖樹を清める儀式的な姿と重なります。キリスト教美術におけるケルビムの、数千年にわたる象徴の変遷を物語る貴重な一枚です。
メガテンと神話におけるケルプ
ケルプ（ケルビム）は、ユダヤ・キリスト教における天使の九階級のうち第二位に位置する高位の天使です。
「ケルブ」「ケルビム」とも呼ばれ、その名はヘブライ語で「智慧」あるいは「仲裁する者」を意味するとされています。その起源はさらに古く、メソポタミア神話に登場する守護聖獣にさかのぼります。
その姿は多様で、四つの顔（人・獅子・牛・鷲）と四枚の翼を持つとされることもあります。炎のような輝きを放ち、神の戦車を動かす存在とも伝えられています。契約の箱（聖櫃）の上にも対となって配置され、神の臨在を象徴する存在でもありました。
ケルプは単なる守護者ではなく、神の意志や智慧を伝達する役割も担います。
神の玉座を支え、その周囲を巡ることで、天上の秩序そのものを維持する存在です。
『女神転生』では、その神秘的な役割がデザインにも反映され、
生物的存在から機械的存在へと変化することで、「人知を超えた存在」としての印象が強調されています。神と人の境界に立ち、聖域を守り続ける――それがケルプという存在なのです。

諸説ありますが、聖書の「ケルブ（Cherub）」の語源は、アッシリア語で守護者を意味する「カルブ（Karibu）」やこの「ラマッス」のような精霊を指す言葉に由来するという説が有力です。

The name is often associated with “wisdom” or “those who mediate,” reflecting their role as transmitters of divine knowledge.
Their origins can be traced back to ancient Mesopotamian guardian beings such as Lamassu—winged creatures placed at temple and palace gates to protect sacred spaces.In the Old Testament, Cherubim are stationed at the east of Eden, guarding the path to the Tree of Life.
They also appear atop the Ark of the Covenant, symbolizing the presence of God.
Their form is described as complex and symbolic, sometimes bearing four faces—human, lion, ox, and eagle—and multiple wings.
They radiate fire-like brilliance and are said to carry or guide the divine chariot.More than mere guardians, Cherubim serve as conduits of divine will and wisdom.
They uphold the order of heaven by surrounding and supporting the throne of God.
In the Megami Tensei series, this abstract and transcendent role is reflected in their design,
which evolves from organic, beast-like forms into mechanical, almost inhuman representations—emphasizing their existence beyond human comprehension.
Standing at the boundary between the divine and the mortal world,
Cherubim remain eternal guardians of sacred order.
