　ブラフマーはヒンドゥー教における創造神であり、宇宙のはじまりを司る存在として知られています。四つの顔を持つ神として描かれ、それぞれが四方を見渡し、万物を創り出したとされます。
 『女神転生』シリーズでは、初期作品から登場する高位の神格として位置づけられています。その姿は神秘的で威厳に満ち、知性と創造の象徴として印象的に描かれています。本ページでは、神話と切手を通して、ブラフマーの本質に迫ります。

メガテンと神話におけるブラフマー

ブラフマーはヒンドゥー教の三大神（トリムールティ）の一柱であり、創造を司る神として位置づけられています。
ヴィシュヌが世界を維持し、シヴァが破壊と再生を担うのに対し、ブラフマーはその始まりを司る存在です。
宇宙の根源的な秩序を形づくる神であり、神々や人間、そして世界そのものを創り出したと伝えられています。

その特徴的な姿として知られるのが「四つの顔」です。これは四方を見渡す全知性を象徴しており、それぞれがヴェーダ（聖典）を司るともされています。また、四本の腕には数珠、書物、壺、蓮華などが持たれ、知識と創造の象徴が凝縮されています。乗り物であるハンサ（白鳥）は、真理と虚偽を見分ける象徴的存在です。

　しかし興味深いことに、ブラフマーは他の神々に比べて信仰の中心となることが少ない神でもあります。
これは神話におけるいくつかの逸話が影響しているとされ、特にシヴァとの関係においてその地位が低下したと語られます。創造神でありながら、後の時代にはその役割が相対的に薄れていった点は、非常に特徴的です。

　切手の図案においても、その神格は静謐で神聖な姿として表現されています。ラオスの切手ではハンサに乗る姿が描かれ、流れるような構図の中に神秘性が感じられます。また、フランス領インドシナの切手では、より装飾的で象徴的な表現となっており、文化ごとの解釈の違いも興味深いところです。

これらの図像は、ブラフマーが単なる神話上の存在ではなく、広い文化圏で共有される象徴であることを示しています。創造というテーマは普遍的であり、その表現もまた多様に展開されてきました。

Brahma is known as the creator god in Hindu mythology and one of the Trimurti, alongside Vishnu and Shiva.While Vishnu preserves the world and Shiva governs destruction and rebirth, Brahma represents the origin of all existence.He is said to have created the universe, the gods, and humanity.

Brahma is often depicted with four faces, symbolizing his omniscient awareness of the four directions.
Each face is associated with sacred knowledge, particularly the Vedas.
He holds symbolic items such as a rosary, a book, a water pot, and a lotus, representing wisdom and creation.
His vehicle, the hamsa (swan), signifies the ability to distinguish truth from illusion.

Interestingly, Brahma is not widely worshipped compared to other major deities.
Mythological stories, especially those involving Shiva, are said to have reduced his prominence over time.
Despite being the creator, his role became less central in later traditions.

Stamp designs reflect his serene and sacred nature.
The Laos issue portrays him riding a hamsa, emphasizing elegance and divine movement.
Meanwhile, the French Indochina stamp presents a more ornamental and symbolic depiction.
